About Alexis.

MY JOURNEY, AS TOLD BY ALEXIS

The early years of my career began at News 12, The Bronx, a local news station in New York.  Following a summer internship, I landed a job on the assignment desk.  That experience led me to CBS News Radio as a Desk Assistant, helping the writers and reporters gather elements for their stories.  I enjoyed it and it provided me with incredible learnings, but I knew TV was where I wanted to be and I landed a job at the CBS Evening News.

I went on to work on the National and Foreign News Assignment Desks for another year, working with reporters and videographers from all over the world.

That taste of global work led me home to Miami where I worked at Univision for 7 ½ years on the national newsmagazine show, Aqui y Ahora, and as a producer for Maria Elena Salinas. I was charged with traveling throughout the United States and Latin America as a producer, interviewing people from all walks of life, managing logistics for the production crew and coordinating live-shots.

At Univision, my personal life blossomed along with my professional life. I got married and had two children. In the end, it was this blossoming and growth of my family that propelled my switch into public relations at American Airlines.

The job allowed me to stay close to home while still producing and telling compelling stories. While there, I led internal communications, including employee storytelling and executive leadership communications; external communications, including media relations and community relations initiatives and employee engagement events.

As the pandemic rolled in, the airline was suffering and my mind had already been set on my next career move. As much as I loved my job, I now had three kids and it felt like the universe was propelling me to start a new chapter. I was certainly ready and an attractive package from the airline helped me take a leap of faith.

Three weeks after accepting the package, I was home with my kids—Christopher, Ignacio and Lucas — and my husband, Chris, contemplating what was next. A series of fortunate events showed me the way into consulting and RedSky Communications was born.
